Debate and FUN at OPOMUN
Our CLIB delegation did themselves, their parents and their school proud with their polished performances at the OPOMUN 2018 conference held from 8-10 February.
Our students' hard work during preparations ultimately bore fruit with the high quality of their public speaking skills on show. Unlike our annual BRAMUN General Assembly conference, here our students were involved in much smaller committees that debated diverse issues such as the ongoing Palestine Situation, Drone Warfare, Whaling, Nuclear Threats and Women's Empowerment. We made very valuable contributions to all debates. In the International Court of Justice, both Margarida Machado and André Roque had very challenging and exciting roles as Advocate and Judge in complex court issues. André later described it as a very enriching experience. We were represented in the G20 and Security Council by Matilde Tavares and André Veiga as they endeavoured to solve specific global issues. At the Disarmament and Human Rights Committees Mariana Araújo, Beatriz Gomes, Chayanne Leite, Maria Afonso Pereira and António Vale all got very involved in debate and had fun in doing so. Though all students conveyed the CLIB Model United Nations spirit in the best possible manner, special mentions go to André Roque and Maria Afonso Pereira who were nominated for Special Mentions in the closing ceremony. A big thank you must go to delegates' parents for making this a memorable weekend for our CLIB students.
