BRAMUN 2017: Keynote Speaker Opens Hearts and Minds
On the 6th and 7th of October, our students from Form 8 to Form 12, met at Museu de D. Diogo de Sousa, to participate in this year's edition of BRAMUN.
We were joined by the international Schools of OIS (Oeiras) and CLIC (Leiria) and the event was a success both educationally and socially. While BRAMUN is all about the students becoming country delegates for a two day United Nations General Assembly conference, there was no doubt that our Keynote Speaker left an indelible mark on this year's event. Our Keynote Speaker described his own personal situation and the overall political situation in his beloved country that is Turkey. He is a teacher, volunteer and Human Rights supporter who has been persecuted for the last 14 months. He gave a harrowing account of what it is like to be harassed by a totalitarian government and have your life changed overnight. Afterwards, he passed on a very kind message about how important it was for him to share his story at BRAMUN and thanked everyone present for their solidarity. With open hearts and open minds, our delegates attacked the issues of Population and Globalisation with vigour. Passionate debate flowed as resolutions were passed and rejected. Our students showed in-depth knowledge of world affairs and made us very proud. A special word of thanks go to our students who worked tirelessly in the weeks and months before BRAMUN and they include Secretary-General Joana Lopes, Head of Admin. Milly Valente who was supported by Miguel Pedro Rodrigues and Lúcia Dai and Head of Press Eugénia Cadeia.
